Each October, the Pendleton Public Library partners with Pendleton Parks and Recreation and the Heritage Station Museum to bring the historic Olney Cemetery to life in the “Quiet Neighbors” cemetery tour. Next month, the library is offering a chance to hear about the former residents of Pendleton’s oldest burying ground: Pioneer Park.

“This was the first cemetery in Pendleton, and there are still some old residents interred there. It’s nice to know a little something about the markers that are left, and we would like people to know more about their North Hill neighbors,” says tour organizer Heather Culley, of the Library.

Although there will be no costumed performers at “Treasures of Pioneer Park,” Culley will lead tour guests on a path through Pioneer Park looking at the remaining grave markers and hearing cemetery history.

The tour begins at 4 p.m. on Feb. 4. Registration is required by calling 541-966-0380 or registering in Person at the Pendleton Public Library.
