EOU Utilizes HECC Grant for Academic Betterment

Eastern Oregon University has been awarded over $1.6 million in funding from the Higher Education Coordinating Commission’s (HECC) Credit for Prior Learning Investment grant. With this grant, the university will enhance its credit for prior learning program to help more people earn college degrees at EOU.

EOU’s Assessment of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) program provides an opportunity for students to earn college credits from their lived experiences. Students from all walks of life can apply what they learn from life and work towards a degree.

“As Oregon’s official rural university, EOU is well positioned to apply new and potential student’s lived experiences towards a college degree,” said Interim Provost Matt Seimears. “With programs like these, EOU is working to close the degree attainment gap here in Eastern Oregon.”

Additional information on the APEL program can be found at eou.edu/apel/.
