Harney District Hospital (HDH) Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is looking for a few people who live in rural communities in and around Harney County to become first responders. While others are running away from danger, first responders are the heroes who rush toward an emergency to provide assistance until additional help can arrive on scene.
All first responders will receive Emergency Medical Response (EMR) training. This specialized training surpasses Basic First Aid, but is less burdensome than obtaining an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) license. In order to receive a two-year certification, first responders must take 47-50 hours of coursework. An additional 12 hours of continuing education is required every two years to maintain certification.
