Eastern Oregon University’s February Colloquium will be showcasing the research work of Dr. Karyn Gomez and Tawnya Lubbes as they discuss their findings of a two-year qualitative case study that investigated participant experiences in EOU’s Oregon Teacher Pathway™ program (eou.edu/otp/).

Gomez and Lubbes’ presentation will take place on Feb. 9, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Ackerman Hall, room 210.

Dr. Karyn Gomez is a Professor of Education, professor in the Undergraduate Elementary Education Program and the Masters in Science Online Program. Tawnya Lubbes is an Associate Professor of Education, ESOL Program Advisor and ESOL Program Coordinator in the College of Education. She also serves as the director of the Oregon Teacher Pathway™ program and the Center for Culturally Responsive Practices™.

The Oregon Teacher Pathway™ program that the case study is based on is EOU’s innovative high school-to-college program with the mission of diversifying Oregon’s teachers. The presentation will focus on data collected from approximately half of the program’s alumni through a series of surveys and focus group interviews.

“We will present the findings from an alumni survey and two focus group studies that investigated the experiences of participants while in the program and the impact the program has had on their classroom practices,” Lubbes said. “Dr. Gomez and I will highlight promising practices as well as areas for continued growth as the program expands.”
