The Nightingale Gallery announced on Mar. 18 that it will present “ANGLE OF REPOSE,” a capstone exhibition featuring the work of Jess Furgerson, Jack Hess, and Megan Hurley. The exhibit will run from April 3 to May 8, with an opening reception scheduled for April 3 from 5 to 7 p.m.
The exhibition brings together three emerging artists who explore themes such as nature, repetition, and nostalgia through various media. According to the gallery, the show aims to highlight the intersection of personal experience and artistic expression.
Jess Furgerson’s work focuses on integrating nature and the human figure, drawing inspiration from her upbringing in the Pacific Northwest where natural landscapes blend with urban environments. Jack Hess uses textile and sculpture to express internal emotions, particularly anxiety, describing their art as a form of therapy that channels restless energy into creative output. Megan Hurley draws upon her childhood in Eastern Oregon, using painting and printmaking with vibrant colors to evoke memories and childhood imagination.
The gallery describes “ANGLE OF REPOSE” as an exhibition where different narratives and media interact—sometimes creating tension or offering relief—reflecting both external nature and inner worlds. The works are said to balance between pushing artistic boundaries and maintaining stability within creative pursuits.
Located in Loso Hall, the Nightingale Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. More information can be found at eou.edu/art or by following the gallery on Facebook and Instagram.
