The Nightingale Gallery at Eastern Oregon University announced on May 12 that it will conclude its 2025-26 exhibition season with the annual All-Campus Juried Student Exhibition, scheduled to run from May 20 through June 12. The exhibit will showcase work by EOU students from various disciplines, with an opening reception set for Wednesday, May 20, from 5 to 7 p.m., and presentation of awards at 5:30 p.m.
This event is significant as it highlights the creative achievements of students across campus and provides them a platform to present their art publicly. It also recognizes outstanding student artists through juried selections and memorial awards.
Katherine Shaughnessy has been named this year’s juror. Shaughnessy is the Co-Founder and Curator of The Common Well, a community of artists and entrepreneurs based in Garden City, Idaho. According to the announcement, “Shaughnessy curates the dynamic gallery space located on the premises and is also an artist in her own right.” Her solo exhibitions have appeared in cities such as Chicago, Marfa, and Albuquerque; her group shows include venues like The Cleveland Museum of Art and National Museum of Women in the Arts. She will present a public talk about her curatorial and studio practices on Thursday, May 14 at Huber Auditorium in Badgley Hall.
In addition to selecting works for inclusion in the exhibit, Shaughnessy will choose several pieces for monetary recognition. Other honors include the sixteenth annual Kathelene Galloway Memorial Scholarship—a $500 award presented to a sophomore or junior-level Art major who demonstrates exemplary skill—and the seventeenth annual Joseph Dickerson Memorial Award.
The Kathelene Galloway Memorial Scholarship commemorates Galloway’s legacy as a professor dedicated to sharing knowledge with her students. As stated in the release: “Galloway exemplified the excellence to which we encourage our students to aspire.” The Joseph Dickerson Memorial Award was established by Joe Dickerson’s family after his death in a car accident during his freshman year at EOU; it honors students who best reflect his dedication and creative spirit.
All awards will be announced during the reception on Wednesday evening. Organizers invite community members to join them in celebrating student creativity.
