Eastern Oregon University is set to hold an information session for its Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program on February 4, 2026. The event will take place from noon to 1 p.m. in Zabel Hall, room 224, on the university’s campus in La Grande.
Kristin Johnson, MAT pre-admissions advisor, and Christina Thew, MAT program coordinator, will lead the session. Attendees will receive details about the accelerated MAT program schedule, prerequisites, costs, and expected outcomes. There will also be time for questions.
“The session will help prospective candidates decide whether the cohort-based MAT is the right fit,” Johnson said. “We will outline admission steps, time commitment, costs and how the program prepares graduates for licensure and teaching positions in Oregon schools.”
The College of Education at Eastern Oregon University offers a full-time MAT program that lasts ten months. It combines classroom experience with required coursework and uses a cohort model where students progress together over four consecutive terms—from summer through spring. The hybrid format allows participants to complete student teaching placements across Oregon while keeping up with their studies.
“Participants will leave with a clear plan for next steps, what to expect week to week, and how the 10-month MAT is designed to move candidates from preparation to the classroom,” according to organizers.
The MAT program trains candidates for teaching roles in both public and private schools at elementary or secondary levels. All students start together as a group and remain together throughout the entire program.
