The Nightingale Gallery at Eastern Oregon University will host its annual “Eastern Oregon Regional High School Exhibition” from February 20 to March 13. The event aims to showcase the work of high school artists from across eastern Oregon, providing many with their first opportunity to display art in a gallery setting alongside peers from other schools in the region.

An opening reception is scheduled for Friday, February 20, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., with awards presented at 5:30 p.m. that evening.

“Bringing high school art into the University’s Nightingale Gallery is such an enriching event,” said Jaime Gustavson, Art Teacher at Union High School. “Union students look forward to the exhibition every year.”

Students in grades nine through twelve from several area schools—including Baker City, Burns, Crane Union, Echo, Elgin, Enterprise, Grant Union, La Grande, McLoughlin, Monument, Pendleton, Powder Valley, and Union—will participate. Each student may exhibit up to two works created in various media.

Faculty members from the EOU Art Program will serve as jurors for the exhibition and will present honors such as award certificates, gift cards, sketchbooks, and EOU-branded items to Best of Show winners in each grade level. Honorable mentions will also receive certificates.

In addition to university recognition, several regional art centers—Art Center East, Crossroads Carnegie Art Center, The Josephy Center for Arts and Culture, and Pendleton Center for the Arts—will provide special awards to students within their service areas.

“The Nightingale Gallery continues its decades-long commitment to celebrating the creative endeavors of our region’s young artists,” said Cory Peeke, Nightingale Gallery Director. “We recognize and encourage these students’ creative pursuits as well as acknowledge the hard work and dedication of their teachers who devotedly cultivate such promising young talent.”
